Week 6 Notes and Links


Tonight we covered how to do a close reading and further defined Narratology and Ludology.  We also ended the class by splitting into debate groups and assigning debate topics.  If you were absent tonight please e-mail me and I will get you your debate group number and topic.  We will meet together for a few minutes next week to make sure everyone is in a group and ready to get to work.

Structure of the debates:
Group 1 will present an opening statement and argue their main points for 20 minutes
Group 2 will present an opening statement and argue their main points for 20 minutes
Group 1 will address with a follow up and closing statement for 10 minutes
Group 2 will address with a follow up and closing statement for 10 minutes
The audience will have up to 10 minutes for Q&A

Rinse and repeat for Group 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8

Here are the groups and their topics
Group 1) Videogames are good for you and have many positive effects
Group 2) Videogames are bad for you and have many negative effects
Group 3) Videogames are addictive and have negative effects
Group 4) Videogames aren't addictive and have no effect
Group 5) The government should regulate and censor videogames
Group 6) The government should not regulate and censor videogames
Group 7) Sex and violence in videogames is harmful to minors
Group 8) Sex and violence in videogames is not harmful to minors
